Filipino Muslims gather to pray for Eid'l Adha 2023

Filipino Muslims gathered early at mosques and other areas on Wednesday to celebrate Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

At the Manila Golden Mosque in Quiapo, Muslims arrived before dawn to attend the prayers scheduled at 6:30 a.m., according to a report by James Agustin on Unang Balita.

Around 10,000 to 15,000 Muslims are expected to visit the Manila Golden Mosque on Wednesday.

After prayers, a cow and goat will be slaughtered and the meat shared among those gathered.

At the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, meanwhile, Muslims gathered as well to pray.

Eid'l Adha is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam, the other one being Eid'l Fitr marking the end of the month-long fasting or Ramadan.

The Feast of the Sacrifice honors Ibrahim for his willingness to sacrifice one of his sons as an act of obedience to Allah's command.

Eid'l Adha also marks the end of hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city in Islam.

Filipino Muslims said they prayed on Eid'l Adha to ask for help as they face challenges in life.
