BuCor releases 497 PDLs; 500 PDLs transferred to Iwahig

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Tuesday released a total of 497 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from various prisons and penal farms.

Data from BuCor showed that 188 PDLs were from the New Bilibid Prison, 77 were from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm, 55 from the Leyte Regional Prison, and 33 from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW).

Of those released, 121 were granted parole and three were acquitted.

BuCor said the released PDLs were given a certificate of discharge, grooming kits, and gratuity and transportation allowance.

Meanwhile, BuCor chief Gregorio Catapang Jr. said that around 500 PDLs from the NBP and CIW were transferred to the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm.

“Kanina lang nagpalipat tayo ng 500 na mga PDL dito sa medium at lilipat sila sa Iwahig sa Palawan. Dine-decongest na po natin ang ating medium at saka minimum,” Catapang said during the culminating activity.

(Earlier, we transferred 500 PDLs to Iwahig in Palawan. We are decongesting our medium and minimum.)

Catapang previously said the BuCor will transfer 7,500 PDLs out of the NBP this year as he was looking to turn the BuCor headquarters in Muntinlupa into a “global city.”

“Pinapa-master plan ko na para meron tayong BuCor Global City. Maniwala kayo, nakakatuwa, kasi dati kulungan lang. Ngayon Global City na,” Catapang said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB in April.
