DOH logs 4,281 new COVID-19 cases in week of June 12–18, 2023
The Philippines recorded a total of 4,281 new coronavirus infections in the week from June 12 to June 18, 2023, data from the Department of Health (DOH) indicated on Monday.
According to the latest DOH bulletin, the number of new cases in the recent week was lower by 35% than the 6,630 infections registered from June 5 to June 11. The daily case average likewise declined to 612 from the previous week's 947.
Of the new cases, 57 or 1.34% were tagged as severe and critical, a little over half the 112 reported last week, according to GMA Integrated News Research.
The DOH data also showed there was one COVID-19-related death monitored last month. No new fatalities were logged in the past week.
Meanwhile, the latest bulletin showed that 477 severe and critical cases were admitted in hospitals due to COVID-19 as of June 18. This is 10.6% of the total COVID-19 admissions.
At least 346 or 16.6% of the 2,080 intensive care unit (ICU) beds were also used, while 3,434 or 19.5% of the 17,647 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were occupied.
As for vaccination, the agency said it would still not be able to generate the latest numbers “due to the ongoing migration of the Vaccine Information Management System (VIMS) by the DICT (Department Of Information And Communications Technology).”
505 cases on Monday
Meanwhile, the DOH said 505 fresh COVID-19 infections were monitored in the country on Monday, decreasing the active cases to 8,659.
This is the lowest number of active COVID-19 infections since May 4, according to GMA News Research.
The total nationwide caseload is now at 4,159,815 while the number of total recoveries also climbed by 707 to 4,084,674. The death toll currently stands at 66,482.
The highest number of new cases in the last 14 days were reported in Metro Manila with 2,400. It was followed by CALABARZON with 1,628; Central Luzon with 1,564; Western Visayas with 963; and Cagayan Valley with 694.
4,389 individuals were tested for the virus on Sunday, June 18. 385 testing laboratories submitted their results.
