DOH logs 726 new COVID-19 cases, highest in 6 days


The Philippines reported 726 new cases of COVID-19 cases on Sunday to mark the highest daily tally in six days, data released by the Department of Health (DOH) revealed.

The latest figure brought the country’s active caseload to 8,861, down from 9,005 on Saturday. This is the 10th straight day that active cases have declined in number, and the total is the lowest in 45 days since 8,371 active cases were reported on May 4, 2023, according to GMA Integrated News Research.

Recovered increased by 870 to 4,083,967, the lowest in three days after reporting over 1,000 recoveries for two straight days. Total deaths were unchanged at 66,482.

There were 5,649 samples tested from 5,456 individuals on Saturday, June 17, coming from 281 testing labs that submitted their data. The cumulative positivity rate was recorded at 13.5%.

The National Capital Region (NCR) continued to account for the highest number of cases in the past two weeks with 2,527, followed by Calabarzon with 1,753, Central Luzon with 1,607, Western Visayas with 1,025, and the Cagayan Valley with 735.

Broken down in terms of provinces and cities, there were 614 cases in Quezon City, followed by Iloilo with 611, Cavite with 581, Bulacan with 449, and Laguna with 404.

In terms of facilities, the DOH said 4,509 out of the 25,304 beds were occupied, translating to an occupancy rate of 18.2% as of Friday, June 16, 2023.

The latest data available from the DOH show that there were 179.046 million doses of COVID-19 administered as of March 19, 2023 — 75.703 million first doses, 79.164 million complete doses, and 24.178 million booster doses. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
