Some lending apps send funeral flowers, coffin ‘to harass debtors’
Some online lending firms have allegedly resorted to harassment to collect from debtors whose payments have been delayed.
According to Mark Salazar's report on "24 Oras", one of the lending apps sent a client a funeral flower arrangement.
"Parang kinikilabutan hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko umiiyak na lang ako," said the victim.
The victim said she took out a loan for P5,000 but only received P2,400 after deductions.
She said she was offered a one-week extension after her due date but she had to pay a P2,000 fee.
The victim refused the offer.
Yet another client was sent an actual coffin after she fell behind on her payment.
The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group said victims of such harassment must come forward so it could build a case against the lenders.
"Nagke-case build up tayo tapos nagfafile tayo sa court ng warrant. Kapag na-issue ni court ang warrant... Gumagawa tayo ng raid," PNP-ACG spokesperson Police Lt. Michelle Sabino said. —NB, GMA Integrated News
