Philippines posts 16,577 active COVID-19 cases, highest in nearly 5 months
The Philippines on Friday registered 2,106 new COVID-19 infections, while the active cases also rose to 16,577.
This was the second day straight of more than 2,000 new infections recorded, according to the GMA News Research.
Based on the Department of Health (DOH)’s latest figures, the fresh cases brought the country’s caseload to 4,123,636.
The country’s active tally also jumped to 16,577 from 16,504 on Thursday, the latest figures showed.
This was the highest since December 23, 2022 with 16,994 active infections reported.
In the recent two weeks, the National Capital Region (NCR) reported the most number of infections with 9,929, followed by Calabarzon with 5,531, Central Luzon with 1,882, Western Visayas with 1,371, and Bicol Region with 844.
The country’s recovery tally also went up to 4,040,606 with 2,033 new recoveries, while the death toll stood at 66,453.
According to the DOH, a total of 8,290 individuals were tested, while 320 testing laboratories submitted data as of Thursday.
The Philippines’ bed occupancy, meanwhile, increased to 21.4%, with at least 5,389 beds occupied and 19,830 vacant.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
