Philippines records 2,114 new COVID-19 cases, highest since October 2022


The Philippines recorded 2,114 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the highest daily tally in more than six months, according to Department of Health data.
 
It was the highest daily tally since October 20, 2022, when 2,227 cases were reported, based on the monitoring of GMA Integrated News Research.
 
This was also the first time in 201 reporting days that the daily tally reached more than 2,000 and the ninth straight day with more than 1,000 daily cases logged.

The nationwide caseload is currently 4,111,028, while the active tally increased to 15,114 from 13,964 on Thursday.
 
It was the highest since December 26, 2022, when 15,472 active cases were recorded, and also the second straight day of more than 13,000 active infections reported.

The number of recoveries increased to 4,029,461, while the death toll remained at 66,453.
 
Among the regions with the highest number of new cases in the past two weeks were the National Capital Region with 8,164, followed by Calabarzon with 4,313, Central Luzon with 1,331, Western Visayas with 965, and Bicol Region with 661.
 
As of Thursday, the national bed occupancy rate was 19.7%, with 5,021 occupied and 20,487 vacant beds.

A total of 8,458 individuals were tested on Thursday, and 320 testing laboratories submitted data. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
