Marcos on PH energy woes: We're open to everything
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Thursday said that the government is looking for new sources of power supply to address the country's energy problems.
Marcos acknowledged the statement of the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute that the country lacks power supply.
"Tama naman ‘yung assessment na talagang kulang ang kuryente natin eh.
So what else can we do? Find new sources. That’s what we’re trying to do. The situation with the renewables is also improving but we may have found some other technologies na hindi mag-antay ng lead time ng six, seven years," Marcos said.
Marcos said the country is open to any kind of power supply that can address the energy problem.
"So pinag-aaralan naming mabuti. When it comes to power, we’re open to everything. Kahit na ano na puwede nating makuha para makapag-addition sa power supply natin. Siyempre nandiyan pa rin lagi nating iniisip ‘yung kailangan parami na ‘yung renewables, pabawas na ‘yung fossil fuels," Marcos said.
The Presidential Communications Office said NuScale Power Corp. of Oregon is expected to invest $6.5 billion to $7.5 billion to provide 430MW in the country by 2031 following a meeting with Marcos.
During his official visit to the United States, Marcos said the NuScale's support would help address the problem.
“We need everything. We just have to have everything and this new technology is something,” Marcos said.
