DOH logs 9,465 new COVID-19 cases in first week of May 2023
The Philippines logged 9,465 new COVID-19 cases from May 1 to May 7, 2023, the latest data from the Department of Health (DOH) indicated Monday.
According to the weekly bulletin, the daily case average for the recent week soared to 112% or 1,352.
Latest data from the DOH also showed a total of nine additional verified COVID-19-related deaths were belatedly recorded by the agency. These deaths were registered from July 2022 to April 2023. No fatalities were reported from April 24 to May 7, 2023.
“Of the 9 deaths, 1 occurred in April 2023, 2 in March 2023, 1 in September 2022, 4 in August 2022, and 1 in July 2022,” the agency said.
Meanwhile, the DOH also said that the number of severe and critical cases admitted in hospitals due to COVID-19 now stands at 410. Of the new cases, 50 were tagged as new severe or critical cases.
Of the 2,097 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 346 or 16.5% were occupied. Meanwhile, 3,766 21.2% of the 17,758 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.
The Health Department said it had yet to generate updated vaccine accomplishment due to the ongoing migration of the Vaccine Information Management System.
As of March 19, DOH said, 179,046,746 vaccine doses have been administered in the country. Of the figures, more than 75 million individuals have received their first dose; more than 79M have completed two doses while over 24 million have availed of their booster doses. — BM, GMA Integrated News
