SITG 990 SAYS

49 PNP officials, personnel seen to have criminal, admin liability due to 990-kg shabu bust

Forty-nine officials and personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) were found to have criminal and administrative liability in connection with the 990-kg shabu confiscated in Manila last year.

This was in a memorandum signed by PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) director Police Major General Eliseo Cruz, according to a report by Mark Makalalad on Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday.

Most of the officials and personnel were from the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), the memo showed.

The highest ranking official cited by Cruz's memo is former PDEG chief Police Brigadier General Narciso Domingo.

The Special Investigation Task Group 990 (SITG 990) ordered the 47 PNP officials and personnel to surrender their firearms.

The SITG 990 will hold a press conference to discuss the findings from its investigation into the illegal drug case of now-dismissed Police Master Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo Jr. involving 990 kilograms of confiscated shabu.

In October 2022, Mayo was arrested as authorities confiscated some 990 kilograms of suspected shabu with an estimated value of over P6.7 billion following a series of anti-drug operations in Manila .

Mayo is an intelligence officer for the PDEG, based on police records.

Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos on Monday asked two police generals and several other police officers to go on leave within the week or face suspension after the investigation of the National Police Commission (Napolcom).

According to him, the investigation showed that “there is indeed a massive attempt to cover-up the arrest of Mayo.”

Domingo on Tuesday said he and nine other police officers will file for a leave of absence to give way to the investigation into the P6.7-billion shabu case.

He however denied any cover-up in the said case. —KG, GMA Integrated News
