PNP inspects terminals, ports to ensure safe Holy Week travels
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of Holy Week travelers as it conducted inspection in bus terminal, seaports and airports in Metro Manila on Wednesday.
According to Marisol Abdurahman's report on "24 Oras," the PNP, along with the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection and Department of Health make the rounds of the transportation hubs to oversee the peace and order situation and ensure the presence of medical personnel for emergencies.
“Kasi nga kung merong mangyari tulad ngayon mainit ang panahon, merong nahilo, merong nag collapse dyan so tho meron tayong first aid team doon kung kinakailangan dalhin sa hospital, merong available na ambulance,” said DOH Assistant Secretary Gloria Balboa.
The authorities also inspected Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
Apart from the deployment of their personnel, the PNP wants to ensure that its security plans are properly implemented.
“Kailangan po ma’am maging proactive po tayo, ‘yung crime prevention, pre-emption. Dapat po lagi nating iisipin. Wag po nating hintayin na may insidenteng mangyayari,” PNP officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Rhodel Sermonia said.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said it would continue to monitor as the travelers return to Metro Manila after the long weekend.
“Hanggang sa buwan ng May ‘yan. We are ready din sa pagbabalik ng mga vacationist nitong summer. Police visibility will continue,” NCRPO chief Police Major General Edgar Alan Okubo said.—Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
