DPWH has over 70,000 projects in 2023, says Bonoan
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan on Tuesday announced that over 70,000 projects would be enforced by the agency this year with a budget allocation worth P890 billion.
"The Department of Public Works and Highways for this year, for 2023, is going to implement more than 70,000 projects... including 'yung mga major projects and local projects all over the country with a budget allocation of about P890 billion," Bonoan said during a Palace press briefing.
Among these projects is the bridge that will connect the provinces of Cavite and Bataan which could shorten travel time between the two provinces to just two hours.
"This is the bridge that will connect Cavite and Bataan. This is about 32 kilometers of bridge across Manila Bay. This will include dalawang (two) bridges, one of the bridges will be 400 meters and the other one is 900 meters. These bridges na ito ay cable-stayed bridges and this detailed engineering is now ongoing," said Bonoan.
He added that the project could be completed within five years.
Meanwhile, Bonoan also said he presented to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. that in the past six months, the agency implemented and maintained 1,500 kilometers of national and local roads across the country.
He added that the agency has started the construction of 161 bridges and 851 flood control projects.
Bonoan also mentioned that the first segment of the NLEX and SLEX connector would be ready for inauguration any time soon.
"We target this hopefully before the start of the Holy Week," Bonoan said. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
