Suspect involved in burying John Matthew Salilig surrenders to police

One of the suspects who allegedly buried hazing victim John Matthew Salilig surrendered to authorities on Thursday.

Cavite Provincial Police Office (PPO) said 23-year-old suspect Daniel Perry surrendered before Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla at around 1:30 p.m.

Perry was turned over to Cavite Provincial Police director Police Colonel Christopher Olazo and brought to Trece Martires City for proper documentation.

Olazo said the suspect admitted that he is among those who buried the Adamson University student in a shallow grave in Imus, Cavite, according to Luisito Santos’ Super Radyo dzBB report on Thursday.

He said Perry surrendered because of his conscience and he was fearing for his family’s safety.

He also said that he was encouraged to surrender after his fellow colleagues surrendered to authorities.

Olazo said the suspect will undergo a medical examination before being turned over to the Biñan police station.

Investigation showed that Salilig went through the initiation rites of the Tau Gamma Phi chapter on the afternoon of February 19. 

A fraternity neohpythe identified the persons involved in the hazing. Six of them underwent inquest proceedings at the Department of Justice Thursday. 

The victim reportedly was no longer in good condition in the middle of the rites. They were already on their way back to Manila when the victim died.

Instead of bringing the victim to the hospital, the suspects allegedly decided to bury him in Cavite. —Richa Noriega/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
