Marcos says he's losing sleep due to inflation
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said Monday that he is losing sleep over the country's inflation rate that pushes prices of goods up.
"'Yan ang problema ko na hindi nagpapatulog sa akin eh, 'yung inflation eh... that's what I lose sleep every night over is how to bring down inflation," Marcos said during an interview with news anchors including GMA Integrated News' Ivan Mayrina.
"I'm determined to bring down, to make sure that inflation starts to come down in the first quarter and mag-normalize na pagkatapos noon," he added.
Inflation or the rate of increase in the prices of goods and services clocked in at 8.1% in December 2022, faster than the 8.0% rate in November 2022 and 3.1% in the same month in 2021.
This is the fastest inflation rate since November 2008’s 9.1%, according to National Statistician and PSA chief Claire Dennis Mapa.
As he attributed the high inflation rate to too much importation, Marcos also underscored the need to improve production, especially of agricultural products, to address the issue.
