Galvez says DND, AFP finding ways to address ammunition wastage
Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. on Monday bared that with the military geared toward non-lethal efforts such as civil-military operations (CMO), there has been a wastage in its supply of ammunition.
"We are looking forward na kung paano ma-recycle siya or ma-put in good use," Galvez told reporters in Camp Aguinaldo.
He did not provide the number of ammunition wasted due to lower consumption, saying the inventory is ongoing.
Galvez added that they are looking at doing something for the shelf life of the ammunition supply. He pointed out that they cannot just discard them considering that the government is already short on resources due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We would like to encourage 'yung ating Defense Department together with the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) na talagang dapat ma-optimize natin 'yung ating mga [we should optimize our] resources, both 'yung ating logistics and financial," he said.
According to Galvez, they are considering using the ammunition for training. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
