NDRRMC: Bad weather death toll hits 29
An additional fatality due to the low pressure areas, shear line, and Northeast Monsoon or Amihan since January 2 was reported Tuesday, bringing the death toll now to 29, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
Based on NDRRMC’s latest situational report, eight of the reported casualties came from Zamboanga Peninsula, seven each from Eastern Visayas and Northern Mindanao, five from Bicol, and one each from Davao Region and Soccsksargen.
Fifteen of these deaths were already confirmed, while 14 were still being verified.
There were also four people still reportedly missing, while 12 were injured.
The agency said a total of 1,398,103 people or 347,382 families were affected by the inclement weather in 1,956 barangays across the country.
As of Tuesday, 155,203 displaced people or 37,984 families were staying in 484 evacuation centers, while 48,193 displaced people or 12,841 families were seeking shelter outside of evacuation centers.
There were 14,150 individuals or 3,092 families preemptively evacuated in Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, and Caraga due to the continuous rains.
Damage
The NDRRMC further reported that the cost of damage to agriculture already increased to P373,962,339.27. The National Irrigation Administration also recorded a P25,610,000 worth of damage.
Meanwhile, the estimated cost of damage to 156 infrastructures now stood at P171,555,996.
There were also 1,376 houses damaged worth P2,410,000 because of the bad weather — 997 of which were partially damaged and 379 were totally damaged.
There were 28 roads and 10 bridges that were also not passable.
At least 10 cities and municipalities, and one province have also declared a state of calamity.
The NDRRMC said P74,540,961.39 worth of assistance was already provided to affected regions. —KG, GMA Integrated News
