After 2 years, Sto. Niño festivals Ati-Atihan, Sinulog and Tondo in full swing

Two years after the celebrations were halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sto. Niño festivals Ati-Atihan, Sinulog, and the one in Tondo, Manila were in full swing on Saturday.

Kalibo

In Kalibo, Aklan, residents lined the streets as an Ati-Atihan parade of men in black body paint and colorful costumes dancing to the beat of drums passed by, based on a video posted on Facebook on Saturday morning by GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas.

People shouted "Viva, Señor Sto. Niño" as an image of the Child Jesus was hoisted up.

Residents did not mind the threat of rains due to a low pressure area, according to a report on Super Radyo dzBB by Ava Marie Moises of Super Radyo Kalibo.

A grand procession will be held in Kalibo on Sunday, January 15, the actual feast day of the Sto. Niño.

Cebu

Meanwhile, in Cebu, a fluvial procession — part of the Sinulog festival for the Sto. Niño — took place on Saturday morning transporting the image of the Sto. Niño from Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City back to Cebu City, according to videos posted by GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak on Facebook.

A big crowd welcomed the image of the Sto. Niño at Pier 1 in Cebu City. Archbishop Jose Palma accompanied the Sto. Niño on its journey, according to Balitang Bisdak reporter Fe Marie Dumaboc.

From Pier 1, the image of the Sto. Niño was then brought via a procession to the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño in Cebu City, the last leg of the image's journey home.

A grand parade will be held on Sunday starting at 9 a.m.

Manila

Meanwhile in Tondo, Manila, residents had images of the Sto. Niño included in a procession for the Sto. Niño de Tondo festival, according to a report by Jhomer Apresto on Super Radyo dzBB.

Manila Police District director Police Brigadier General Andre Dizon told Super Radyo dzBB there won't be any signal jammers in Tondo for the Sto. Niño festival.
