Ukrainian diplomat clarifies he's not complaining on request for phone call with Marcos

The chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Ukraine in Malaysia on Friday clarified that he was not complaining about Ukraine's request for a phone call with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., which still awaits response from the Palace.

In a television interview, Denys Mykhailiuk said he just mentioned before members of the media that there was a standing invitation for a call between Marcos and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

"Exactly not. If you see the full coverage, which I have shared with the press. I've told also that there are lots of other issues that we want to discuss during this meeting and we're discussing 10-point plan of peace of President Zelenskiy," Mykhailiuk told ANC when asked if he was complaining about the matter.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Carlos Sorreta earlier said Ukraine should not have made public its requests for a discussion with Marcos, noting that this should not be "vented" through the press.

Mykhailiuk also apologized to the DFA over the issue, noting that he respects his counterparts. He also mentioned that he has not met or spoken with Sorreta.

"My dear colleagues, I apologize for any misunderstanding which was caused by not very correct or maybe misunderstood speakings. Thank you for your understanding," he said.

Meanwhile, Mykhailiuk expressed hope that the Philippines would support the 10-point peace plan that envisages Russia respecting Ukraine's territorial integrity and pulling out all its troops.—Anna Felicia Bajo/AOL, GMA Integrated News
