BFP records 10 fire incidents related to firecrackers
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) recorded 10 fire incidents related to firecrackers during the celebration of the New Year, an official said Monday.
During the public briefing, BFP spokesperson Fire Superintendent Annalee Atienza said this is higher compared to previous years.
“Mas mataas po tayo ngayon, no, dahil nga po ‘yung 2021 at 2022, 2020 rather, ‘yun po ay ‘yung pandemic days natin so malaking bagay po ‘yung pag total ban nung panahon na ‘yon,” she said.
(It’s higher this time because 2021 and 2022, or 2020 rather, were our pandemic days so the total ban then was a really big thing.)
“At ngayon ma-attribute po siguro natin na medyo na-excite ang ating mga kababayan sa pag papaputok at ‘yun na nga po na dagdagan po ng kapabayaan kung saan na lang po ito naitala natin ang sampung insidente,” she added.
(And we can attribute this that Filipinos becoming excited about using fireworks and were also somewhat neglectful and so we recorded 10 incidents.)
Atienza said most of the incidents were caused by kwitis.
“However, itong kwitis po kasi hindi siya prohibited sa majority dito sa naitala nitong fire incidents ay caused by nitong firecrackers na ito, itong kwitis,” she said.
(However, kwitis is not prohibited so the majority of the fire incidents that we recorded were caused by this firecracker, this kwitis.)
Asked for the BFP’s assessment this year, Atienza said the BFP observed that the majority of Filipinos complied with the reminders of government.
“Nakita naman natin ang cooperation ng majority ng ating mga kababayan sa mga panawagan po ng ating government, especially ng BFP sa pag iwas nga po sa mga mapaminsalang sunog,” she said.
(We observed the cooperation of the majority of Filipinos in the reminders of the government, especially the BFP in avoiding dangerous fires.)
“At ganon na rin po ang ating mga pasasalamat sa ating mga LGUs na talaga naman pong todo, na tutok din sa pagpapalawak nitong kaalaman na ito,” she added.
(And we would also like to extend our gratitude to the LGUs who strictly disseminated this knowledge.) — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
