Marcos calls on Pinoys to embody Rizal's patriotism, perseverance
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Friday urged Filipinos to continue to embody the ideals and virtues of patriotism and perseverance of Dr. Jose Rizal, the country's national hero.
"As we cap this year by honoring the legacy that Rizal has left for our country, may we continue to embody the virtues of excellence, patriotism, and perseverance that he exhibited throughout his life," Marcos said in his Rizal Day message.
Marcos, together with the First Family, on Friday morning graced the ceremony commemorating the 126th death anniversary and martyrdom of Rizal.
In his message, the President also said he is hoping Rizal's determination to achieve real change will empower the Filipinos of today to become vigilant of social ills.
"May he continue to become a role model to all of us who aspire to impart our knowledge and dedicate our abilities to the betterment of society," Marcos said.
Marcos acknowledged Rizal's role in enlightening Filipinos about the injustices, corruption, and oppression that the Philippines experienced from colonizers.
"He did this unflinchingly, not through a violent uprising, but through a peaceful protest using the power of the pen," Marcos said.
He added that the day's occasion should be an opportunity for Filipinos to "reflect on the kind of life that we want to live."
"After all, true heroism does not only mean offering your life for your country, but also fighting your own silent battles and working within your capacities to bring about a better and future we want to see for the present and succeeding generations," Marcos said. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA Integrated News
