LTFRB to open over 4K slots for TNVS application starting January 9, 2023

More than 4,000 slots will be opened for application for transport network vehicle service (TNVS) starting January 9, 2022, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said Wednesday.

According to a report of Joseph Morong on GMA News’ Unang Balita, the LTFRB said passengers are facing difficulty in booking a ride due to the lack of TNVS units currently at 7,000.

LTFRB technical division head Joel Bolano said the applicant should seek accreditation to a transportation network company (TNC).

The TNC will submit the applications to the LTFRB, he added.

“Inuuna muna natin na ma-accredit sila ng  (First, they should be accredited by the) TNC and the Board allows the TNC to help the accredited TNVS operators or drivers to process their application,” he said.

“Ang tinitingnan ng Board dito, para sigurado si Board na yung ipa-file ni TNC are all genuine, vetted na siya (The Board wants to ensure that the applications the TNC will file are all genuine and already vetted),” he added.

The LTFRB will allow TNCs to have 100 applications for franchise and up to three accredited vehicles per an individual.

According to the LTFRB, there is no deadline for the application.

The LTFRB also eased the requirement for applicants whose vehicles are under installment plan. Instead of presenting a certificate of conformity from a bank upon application, now it can be submitted during the hearing.

“So mabibigyan na rin po sila ng provisional authority na makatakbo sila while waiting for the hearing. Si TNC matulungan din sila sa bank, di ba? Malay natin they have their way,” Bolano said.

(So they will be given a provisional authority to operate while waiting for the hearing. The TNC may help them with the bank, right? Maybe they have their way.)

According to the LTFRB, it had opened the application for TNVS in May. However, only 2,000 passed and were able to obtain a franchise. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
