DOH: 4 cases of Omicron subvariant BF.7 detected in Philippines
Four cases of the Omicron subvariant BF.7 have been detected in the Philippines, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Friday.
According to the DOH, however, the BF.7 is currently being reported under Omicron subvariant BA.5.
The agency further said current evidence does not suggest any difference in severity or clinical manifestations between the BF.7 and the original Omicron variant.
“The Department of Health reiterates the need to put more emphasis on other factors such as wearing of best-fitting face masks, isolating when sick, doubling-up protection via vaccines and boosters, and ensuring good airflow,” the DOH said in a statement.
“If such factors will be adhered to and implemented by ourselves immediately, decline in cases may be observed sooner,” it added.
Meanwhile, the country has recorded a total of 4,059,369 COVID-19 cases, of which 16,900 are currently active. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
