PNP heightens security in certain areas ahead of CPP anniversary

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday it has already intensified its security measures in several areas days before the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) marks its anniversary on December 26.

Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said that they have not yet monitored any serious credible threats from the Reds that may disrupt the Christmas season, so far.

“Of course, anticipated natin na magkakaroon ng anniversary ang CPP. Kaya naman doon sa mga areas na may mga dati na tayong monitored na mga atrocities nila ay in-intensify na po natin ang ating security measures, katuwang ang ating Armed Forces of the Philippines contingents,” she said.

The AFP said Sunday that it does not currently see any problems coming from the CPP with the passing of its founding chairman Jose Maria "Joma" Sison on Friday.

The CPP also said on Monday that it will forgo declaring a ceasefire this holiday season as it sees no reason to do so.

For PNP’s part, Fajardo said they have put in place additional mobile forces to ensure the public’s safety.

“Even ‘yung ating mga Special Action Force ay nai-deploy na rin doon sa stations at mga detachment ng mga vulnerable sa mga attacks and harassments,” she added.
