DOH warns vs. eating, drinking too much over Christmas holidays

The Department of Health (DOH) advised the public to eat and drink in moderation during the holiday season, according to Cedric Castillo’s “24 Oras” report on Friday.

“During these times, lahat tayo ang hilig natin kumain ng mas madami. This can lead to non-communicable diseases. December, January, February mas mataas po ang incidents na mga inaatake sa puso, na-iistroke,” DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said.

(During these times, all of us eat more. This can lead to non-communicable diseases. There are many incidences of stroke in December, January, and February.)

The DOH also reminded the public to take care of their mental health as the level of stress is “high” during Christmas.

The Health Department encouraged people to follow health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other diseases.

Meanwhile, some people said they are not limiting themselves from eating and drinking as long as they have regular exercise.

“I still go drinking and eating pero babawiin ko talaga yun sa workout. Talagang pagpapawisan kong mabuti yung kinain ko, ayoko rin syempre ideprive ang sarili ko of having feast with family and friends,” fitness enthusiast Xen Chavez said.

“Enjoyin niyo lang kung ano yung ginagawa niyo sa gym, kain enjoyin, lahat enjoyin ninyo,” professional bodybuilder Richard Morilla said. —Richa Noriega/NB, GMA Integrated News
