Gov't workers start receiving year-end bonus, cash gift

Some government employees have started receiving their year-end bonus and cash gifts, ushering in an early Christmas feel.

For state workers eligible to get the bonus but will not get it on time, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) said they can check with their department heads or file a report with the commission.

According to a report by Joseph Morong on "24 Oras," over 11,000 regular employees at the Manila City Hall enthusiastically received their bonus which is equivalent to a month's salary.  They also got a cash gift.

However, it was still uncertain if the 6,000 others who are under job contracts will get the same.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan said they are still waiting for the national government's administrative order on whether the bonus for casual and contractual employees will be granted this year.

“Usually ina-annouce po nila yan before December para mapaghandaan nga po namin and normally ang binibigay namin diyan eh mga P5,000,” she said.

Lacuna added they were able to distribute bonuses to job order employees last year.

Meanwhile, the San Juan City government has given a one-month salary bonus to its permanent employees and casual or contractual employees who have served for more than four months before October 21, 2022.

"Napakasaya, pambili ito ng pamasko tsaka sapatos tapos ipon," Ricardo Santos said.

Makati City Hall employees also have something to cheer about as the local government started releasing bonuses.

Dolly Valenzuela said she will spend her bonus for gifts to friends and for noche buena.

CSC Commissioner Aileen Lizada reminded the employees that they could file a report if the local government units failed to provide their bonuses on time.

"Ang timeline na ibinigay ng DBM circular is not earlier than November 15, so dapat onwards dapat binibigay na 'yan. Pagdating ng Disyembre at wala pa kayong natatanggap, maybe you can ask yung head of agency ng inyong finance kung ano'ng nangyayari kasi dinownload na 'yan ng DBM," Lizada said.—Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
