Sara Duterte is caretaker while Marcos is in Cambodia — Palace

Vice President Sara Duterte will be the country's officer-in-charge while President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is in Cambodia for the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits.

Malacañang confirmed this to reporters at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Marcos has left for Phnom Penh to attend the Summits, which he sees as an opportunity to promote and protect the Philippines' interest.

The President said they would discuss regional cooperation on maritime security, climate change, food security, health cooperation, and economic recovery amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that the ASEAN would be an instrument to address regional issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation in Myanmar, developments in the South China Sea and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
