Paeng damage to infrastructure now at P4.3 billion —NDRRMC

The estimated cost of infrastructure damage due to Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) has now reached P4.3 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.

Based on its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said the cost of 722 damaged infrastructure all over the country stood at P4,309,850,765.88.

The highest amount of damage, involving 111 infrastructure, was recorded in Calabarzon at P1,243,670,800. This was followed by Mimaropa with 191 damaged infrastructure amounting to P794,207,400, and Bicol Region with 180 damaged infrastructure at P793,374,689.99.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) also reported P2,989,090,147.535 in damage in the agriculture sector of Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Bangsamoro Region, and Cordillera Administrative Region’s (CAR) due to Paeng, the NDRRMC said.

The DA however on Saturday said damage to agriculture due to Paeng already reached P3.16 billion

The Bicol Region sustained the most damage to agriculture amounting to P924,124,008.65.

The National Irrigation Administration reported P96,102,000 damage in Cagayan Valley and Bicol Region.

Meanwhile, the number of reported fatalities because of Paeng slightly rose to 156 from 155 on Saturday.

There were also 37 missing people, and 141 injured.

As of Sunday, 107,343 displaced people or 26,731 families remained in 954 evacuation centers, while 920,586 people or 325,664 families were staying outside of evacuation centers.

A total of 4,623,408 people or 1,269,166 families in 9,481 barangays were affected by Paeng.

NDRRMC also recorded 34,698 houses damaged due to the storm —31,558 of which were partially damaged and 3,140 were totally damaged.

There were 120 roads and 68 bridges that were still not passable because of Paeng. —KG, GMA Integrated News
