Reported death toll due to Paeng climbs to 121 —NDRRMC


The reported death toll due to Severe Tropical Storm Paeng has climbed from 112 to 121 on Wednesday morning, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Based on the NDRRMC’s 6 a.m. report, most of the fatalities were reported in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) with 61 deaths, followed by Western Visayas with 29 and Calabarzon with 12.

Only 92 of the total reported fatalities have been confirmed so far while the rest are still up for validation, according to the NDRRMC.

At least 103 people were reported injured and 36 were reported missing, the NDRRMC said.

A total of 3,180,132 individuals or 927,822 families in 7,341 barangays across all regions were affected by Paeng, it added.

Of the affected population, 176,337 persons or 49,698 families were staying inside 2,904 evacuation centers, while 692,941 people or 277,825 families were taking shelter in other places.

A total of 11,294 houses were reported damaged — 9,190 partially and 2,104 totally.

Meanwhile, among the incidents reported during the onslaught of Paeng over the weekend were 535 floodings, 121 landslides, and 11 storm surges.

Damage to agriculture worth P1.278 billion was reported. Aside from this, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) reported P1.475 million worth of damage.

Damage to infrastructure worth over P896.8 million, on the other hand, was reported.

A total of 164 cities and municipalities were under state of calamity due to the impact of the tropical cyclone.

According to the NDRRMC, assistance worth P71.590 million were already provided to victims of Paeng.

Paeng made landfall over Camarines Sur on October 29 and exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on October 31. —KBK/RSJ, GMA News
