Philippines' 2,227 new COVID-19 cases push active tally to 23,721


The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday recorded 2,227 new COVID-19 infections, which is close to a thousand more than the 1,379 cases posted on October 19, 2022.

The new cases pushed the country's active tally to 23,721, up from Wednesday's 23,347.

The nationwide caseload now totals 3,989,556, the DOH said.

In the recent two weeks, the National Capital Region (NCR) reported the highest infections with 9,083, followed by Calabarzon with 4,817, Central Luzon with 2,637, Western Visayas with 1,475, and Davao Region with 1,383.

The Health department said the country’s recovery tally increased to 3,902,166, while the death toll climbed to 63,669.

It said that at least 7,542 beds were occupied, while 20,946 were vacant as the bed occupancy in the country stood at 26.5% as of Wednesday, October 19.

The DOH said a total of 15,928 individuals were tested, while 341 testing labs submitted results.—LDF, GMA News
