Remulla: I serve at the pleasure of the President
Amid calls by some sectors for him to step down, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said only President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. can decide on his fate in government.
“I serve at the pleasure of the President. I think that’s the most important principle here,” Remulla said in an interview with SMNI network Friday.
The Justice chief’s return to the country after leading the Philippine delegation to the United Nations Human Rights Council’s 51st dialogues was met by news reports of the arrest of his eldest son, Juanito, over a shipment of suspected kush.
A case was filed on Friday against Juanito for violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 before the Las Piñas City Regional Trial Court.
Remulla reiterated he will not interfere in the case and will let justice run its course. He said he has yet to see his son, who is currently under the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
“When I heard about it, wala naman akong hininging pabor, ikuha lang ng abugado for his right to defend himself,” he said.
“I have not asked anybody any favor because the system has to work. I am part of the system, I trust the system,” he added.
Remulla said despite the challenges happening in his family life, he will remain focused on his job in reforming the justice system.
“Isa itong pagsubok sa aking pamilya, sa aking sairli at marahil sa ating bansa on how we handle sensitive matters like this,” he said.—LDF, GMA News
