DOH: 14,333 new COVID-19 cases logged from Oct.3–9, 2022; 2,106 on Monday


The Philippines posted 14,333 new coronavirus infections in the week from October 3 to October 9, 2022—10 percent lower than the total reported in the previous week, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

According to its weekly bulletin, the DOH said this week’s fresh COVID-19 cases eased further from the 16,017 cases reported in the September 26 to October 2 period.

The daily case average for the recent week also decreased to 2,048, from last week’s 2,288.

Latest data from the DOH also showed an additional 256 COVID-19 deaths: 29 occurred from September 26 to October 9; 14 in October 2022; 36 in September 2022; 7 in August 2022; 1 in May 2022; 5 in October 2021; 185 in September 2021; and 8 in August 2021.

The Health Department also said 669 severe and critical cases were admitted to hospitals due to COVID-19 as of October 9, 2022.

Meanwhile, of the 2,524 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 614 or 24.3% were occupied while 27.2% or 21,039 of the non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Of the new cases recorded in the covered period, five individuals were tagged as new severe or critical cases.

2,106 new cases on Monday

The DOH also reported that 2,106 new coronavirus cases were monitored in the country on Monday, with active infections now at 26,014.

This is the fifth straight day with more than 2,000 new cases reported. However, the current active cases further dipped from the 26,357 recorded on Sunday.

The total nationwide caseload is now at 3,969,987.

Meanwhile, total recoveries are now at 3,880,676 while the death toll increased to 63,297.

Metro Manila remains the region with the most new infections in the last 14 days with 11,767. It was followed by Region IV-A with 5,339; Region III with 2,698; Region XI with 1,398 and Region VI with 912.

Bed occupancy in the country remains at low risk with 25.6% or 7,307 occupied and 21,208 vacant.

10,523 individuals in the country were tested for the virus on Sunday, October 9. 315 testing laboratories submitted their results.

Vaccination updates

Over 73 million individuals or 93.87% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to DOH.

Meanwhile, at least 6.8 million senior citizens, or 78.95% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA News
