Senate unveils 19th Congress 'Legacy Wall'

The Senate on Monday unveiled a new "Legacy Wall" containing the portraits of the 19th Congress senators.

This is part of the Senate's celebration of its 106th Anniversary.

"To use the word “legacy” is perhaps a little bit premature, this early on in the 19th Congress. We are on the right track, but these are early days yet, and the question of legacy is best left to others—to our historians, to our successors, and most importantly, to the people, whose judgment matters most," Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said during the ceremony.

Citing late former senator Edgardo Angara, Zubiri said the best legacy the senators can leave are the laws they make for the people.

"I’m very optimistic that this is shaping up to be a very productive and efficient Congress, having just come from the signing of our first law earlier today. But really, more than the legacy of this particular Congress, this wall stands as a testament to this fine institution itself," he said.

In the 17th Congress, the Senate also installed a Legacy Wall.

"This wall reminds us that we must build on the rich legacy of the Senate, and on all the accomplishments of the legislators who have come before us, and who have paved the way forward for the country through their landmark legislation," Zubiri said

"This wall also celebrates the power of the people—the people who chose us to work for them and to advocate for them in these halls. When we look at this wall, may we be constantly reminded of our duty to our people," he added.

Joining Zubiri in the ceremony are former senators Franklin Drilon, Kit Tatad, Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda, Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, Senators Bong Go, Francis Tolentino, Bong Revilla, Sherwin Gatchalian, Robin Padilla, Raffy Tulfo, and JV Ejercito.—AOL, GMA News
