CHR starts own probe on Percy Lapid slay
The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Wednesday said it has launched its own investigation into Monday night's killing of broadcaster Percy Lapid in Las Piñas City.
In a statement, the CHR expressed its support to the media community and denounced the “violent crime.”
"The CHR is already conducting a motu proprio investigation into the brazen killing of veteran broadcaster Percival 'Percy Lapid' Mabasa in Las Piñas City on Monday night, 3 October 2022," it said.
The CHR noted that Lapid is "known to have critical views on the policies and some personalities under the Duterte and Marcos Jr. administrations."
Lapid, host of online broadcast program "Percy Lapid Fire" at DWBL 1242 and columnist for Hataw, was shot dead by two men while on his way home in Barangay Talon Dos, Las Piñas City on Monday evening.
The CHR called on the law enforcement officers to capture the perpetrators.
On Tuesday, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said an in-depth investigation has started through a Special Investigation Task Force formed by the Las Piñas City Police hours after the incident.
"The DILG and PNP commit to deliver justice to the family of Lapid and bring the suspects behind bars to answer for their crime," DILG Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. said in a statement.
Malacañang earlier said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is "concerned" over the killing of Lapid, adding that it is expecting report from investigating authorities in seven days. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
