Jobs target for K-12 grads unmet —DepEd spokesperson

The direction of the K to 12 program to make its graduates employable is not happening right now, but the Department of Education  is still conducting an assessment.

DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa made the statement on Friday when pressed at press conference if the DepEd would still continue the implementation of the Senior High School curriculum after its review.

“Ang direksyon po kasi natin sa senior high schools is not itutuloy or hindi itutuloy (Our direction in Senior High School was not whether to continue it or not),” he said.

“Because yung promise po ng K to 12 is that when our learners graduate after Grade 12 they are employable pero hindi po nangyayari yan sa ngayon (but that is not happening now),” he added.

Poa said the direction in the Senior High School program is to align the skills being taught, especially in technical and vocational track, with the demand of industries.

According to him, the DepEd will start to review the Grade 11 and 12 curriculum in November.

The review on the curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 10 levels has been finished. The DepEd is conducting consultations for its assessment of the program. —LBG, GMA News
