Family, supporters commemorate Miriam Santiago’s 6th death anniversary
The family and supporters of former Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago commemorated her sixth death anniversary on Thursday at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City.
A Mass in front of her grave was held, which was attended by her husband, Atty. Narciso Santiago Jr., and Vice President Sara Duterte.
Santiago’s husband, who is now the president of the People's Reform Party (PRP), a political party founded by the former lawmaker, thanked Duterte and everyone who joined the commemoration.
“May all her teachings and legacy remain [with] us and guide our leaders in serving the people,” the PRP said in a Facebook post.
The PRP endorsed the candidacy of Duterte for vice president in the May 2022 elections. Her running mate was President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Marcos served as Santiago's running mate in her 2016 campaign for the presidency. In 1992, she too ran for the country's top job but lost to Fidel Ramos.
She died at the age of 71 in September 2016 due to lung cancer. — VBL, GMA News
