10 reported dead, 8 missing due to Karding —NDRRMC


The reported death toll due to Typhoon Karding has increased from eight to 10, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) deputy spokesperson Raffy Alejandro said Wednesday.

An additional fatality due to drowning was reported from Baliwag, Bulacan, and another one from Tanay, Rizal, according to the NDRRMC.

The total reported deaths also included five rescuers who died due to drowning in San Miguel, Bulacan; two fatalities due to drowning and motorcycle accident in Zambales; and one fatality due to a landslide in Burdeos, Quezon.

The number of reported missing persons has also increased from three to eight, the NDRRMC said.

Two additional missing persons were reported in Antipolo, Rizal, and another one in Patnanungan, Quezon, the NDRRMC added. Two more fishermen were reported missing in Mercedes, Camarines Norte.

It was earlier reported that three fishermen were missing in Mercedes.

In its report on Wednesday, the NDRRMC said 157,023 people or 39,893 families were affected by Karding in 1,318 barangays in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and CAR.

A total of 37,135 people or 8,825 families are staying inside 574 evacuation centers, while 15,759 individuals or 3,778 families are staying in other places.

Also, the NDRRMC said that a total of P23,050,000 worth of damage was reported in Ilocos, Mimaropa, and Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) due to Typhoon Karding

For agriculture, a total of P108,837,409.87 worth of damage was reported in Ilocos, Calabarzon, Bicol, and CAR.

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA), meanwhile, reported a total of P1.3 million worth of damage in Bicol. —LBG, GMA News
