Senate OKs on 2nd reading bill moving December 2022 barangay, SK polls for a year
The Senate of the Philippines approved on second reading the bill postponing the 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections for a year.
The senators passed the measure a week after it was sponsored on the floor by Senate electoral reforms and people's participation Imee Marcos.
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III and Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros opposed the passage of Senate bill 1306.
Hontiveros proposed to amend the date of the election under SB 1306 to be moved from December 2023 to May 2023.
However, it was not accepted by Marcos but assured the minority lawmaker that it will be raised at the bicameral conference committee level.
The counterpart measure of SB 1306 was approved on Tuesday on third and final reading by the House of Representatives. —NB, GMA News
