Imee eyes liquor curfew for areas with high rape cases

Senator Imee Marcos on Thursday urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) to coordinate with local government units regarding the possible curfew on the sale and purchase of liquor in areas with high incidents of rape.

During the hearing of the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs, Marcos said the PNP has recorded a total of 149 crimes against female students.

She said the bulk of incidents of sexual violence against school girls and very young females are in the National Capital Region.

The senator said the cases involve alcohol and drugs and occur during payday, fiestas, concerts, or other public occasions.

Marcos also urged the PNP to contact its international counterparts.

“Finally, may I make a plea to all of you in the PNP and the rest to contact your international counterparts… and I think it is important that we reach out to the ASEAN security network,” Marcos said.
