Philippines logs over 15K new COVID-19 cases from September 5 to 11

The Philippines recorded 15,379 new COVID-19 cases from September 5 to 11, 2022—a 10% decline from the number logged the week before, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.

Based on the DOH’s case bulletin, the cases logged in the recent week was a decrease from the 17,145 cases from August 29 to September 4.

The daily case average for the recent week was also lower at 2,197, as compared to the previous week’s 2,449.

A total of 300 additional verified COVID-19-related deaths were, however, belatedly recorded by the DOH in the past week. These deaths were logged from June 2020 to September 2022.

Of the 300 deaths, 19 occurred in September 2022, 30 in August 2022, 41 in November 2021, 154 in October 2021, 39 in September 2021, 1 in April 2021, 1 in September 2020, 6 in August 2020, 8 in July 2020, and 1 in June 2020.

Twenty-one of which also occurred between August 29 to September 11 alone.

Data also showed that 727 severe and critical cases were admitted in hospitals due to COVID-19 as of September 11.

Of the 2,485 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 594 or 23.9% were occupied. Meanwhile, 5,925 or 28.2% of the 21,020 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Of the new cases recorded from September 5 to 11, there were 12 individuals tagged as new severe or critical cases. This was 0.09% of the new cases reported for the week.

2,038 new cases on September 12

On Monday, September 12, 2022, the DOH logged 2,038 new cases as the country's active tally slightly dropped to 25,262 from 25,684 on Sunday.

The new infections raised the nationwide count to 3,908,295.

The Health department said total recoveries climbed to 3,820,691, while the country’s death toll rose by 38 to 60,342.

Vaccination updates

A total of 72,770,721 Filipinos or 93.18% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to DOH.

Of this number, 150,374 were vaccinated from September 5 to 11.

Meanwhile, at least 6.8 million senior citizens or 78.18% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series.

The DOH also noted that 18,552,043 individuals have received their booster shots, of whom 357,398 were boosted in the same period.  —With Mel Matthew Doctor/NB, GMA News
