Marcos: Bring arts and culture down to the ‘loneliest barangay’

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Saturday called for the promotion of arts and culture to a wider audience.

In his message for the 53rd anniversary of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Marcos encouraged the CCP and educational institutions, as well as the government and private sector, to introduce arts and culture to children, saying that this would inspire and develop “talented and promising” young artists.

“Let us all support our people’s interest in culture and the arts through scholarships and grants and enhancement training. Let us empower as they join the center of world-class Filipino artists in the fields of music, voice, dance, theater, and written and visual arts,” Marcos said in his message, which was read by CCP chairman Jaime Laya.

“I also exhort all of us to bring culture, the arts, and the creative industry down to the loneliest barangay in the country,” he added.

The President said that the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) “are there to help develop and promote the creative industry through innovation and financial support.”

He also pledged his support for the arts, just like his parents, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and former First Lady Imelda Marcos, did in the past.

The CCP is a cultural institution built during the elder Marcos’ rule with Imelda as the founding chair.

The CCP celebrated its 53rd anniversary through a musical program with excerpts of original Filipino musicals from 2015 to 2021 in vignettes featuring leading artists from various theater companies. — VBL, GMA News
