Nasino, Moran, Bautista seek release from detention, dismissal of cases

Reina Mae Nasino, the mother who lost her three-month-old daughter while in detention; Alma Moran; and Ram Carlo Bautista have asked the Manila Regional Trial Court to release them from detention, lawyer Kathy Panguban said Friday.

In a three-page joint manifestation filed through their lawyers, the three also urged the court to dismiss the cases filed against them, saying there is no more basis to continue their detention after the Court of Appeals voided the search warrants issued against Bautista, which was used as the basis for their arrest in 2019.

The CA also declared inadmissible all evidence procured against them.

“Respectfully, it would be the height of injustice for movants to continue being tried with evidence that, in law, has been considered fruits of the poisonous tree,” the manifestation read.

“Thus, movants respectfully pray that the instant case be dismissed and the movants, who are not being held for any charge, be immediately released from detention,” it added.

The National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers, their counsel, also submitted before the Manila RTC Branch 47 a copy of the decision of the Court of Appeals.—AOL, GMA News
