Valencia takes over as acting Philippine Navy chief
Rear Admiral Caesar Bernard Valencia is now the acting Flag Officer In Command of the Philippine Navy as its previous chief, Vice Admiral Adeluis Bordado, has retired.
In a statement issued Friday, the Navy said the change of command and retirement ceremonies were conducted at its headquarters in Manila on Thursday.
Department of National Defense (DND) officer-in-charge Senior Undersecretary Jose Faustino Jr. presided over the event.
Valencia held some key positions in the Navy such as chief of naval staff, commander of Naval Forces Northern Luzon, and commander of the Offshore Combat Force.
He is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis Lahi” Class of 1990, the Navy said.
Valencia vowed to continue the thrusts and guidance of his predecessor and is expecting a bright future of the Navy.
“As we continue to sail on towards our vision year in 2028 to be Modern and Multi-Capable, the Navy’s promise to our maritime nation is that your Navy can still be better, and that your Navy will be better,” he said.
“And although much has been achieved over the years, the Navy’s proudest moments are still to come,” he added.
According to the Navy, Valencia assumed the post in acting capacity pending the appointment of a full-pledged Flag Officer In Command by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
