DOH logs 2,321 new COVID-19 cases; active tally rises to 24,067

The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday recorded 2,321 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the total nationwide caseload to 3,891,418.

Based on the DOH’s latest data, the country’s active cases slightly increased to 24,067 from 23,571 on Saturday.

However, this is the eighth straight day with fewer than 30,000 active infections.

The number of recoveries climbed to 3,805,340 while the death toll rose by 49 to 62,011.

According to the DOH, the regions with the most cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 9,564 followed by Calabarzon with 4,611 and Central Luzon with 3,064.

The Health Department said at least 16,596 individuals were tested, while 308 testing labs submitted data on September 3.

It said that the bed occupancy in the country was 27.4%, with 7,946 beds occupied, while 21,017 were vacant.

Last week, OCTA Research said that the COVID-19 average daily attack rate (ADAR) in the National Capital Region (NCR) is now considered “low” at 5.98 per 100,000 population.

ADAR refers to the average number of new COVID-19 cases in a period per 100,000 people.

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said that an ADAR below 6 is deemed low based on their metrics. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
