Philippines reports 2,986 new COVID-19 infections; active tally hits 31,615


The Philippines on Friday reported 2,986 new COVID-19 infections, adding the nationwide tally to 3,869,976.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH)’s latest data, the country’s active case count increased to 31,615 from 31,037 on Thursday.

Among top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 12,283; followed by Calabarzon with 6,648; Central Luzon with 4,152; Western Visayas with 2,179; and Cagayan Valley with 1,722.

The DOH said a total of 3,776,802 individuals recovered from COVID-19 with 2,287 new recoveries.

The country’s death toll rose to 61,559 with 40 new fatalities, according to the Health department.

At least 19,721 individuals were tested, while 334 testing laboratories submitted data as of Thursday, August 25.

Meanwhile, the nationwide bed occupancy dropped to 28.6% with 8,228 occupied and 20,559 vacant.—AOL, GMA News
