Philippines logs 1,735 new COVID-19 cases, lowest in 41 days

The Philippines on Tuesday logged 1,735 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest daily tally since 1,604 were recorded on July 13.

Based on the latest data from the Department of Health (DOH), the active tally also went down to 31,542 from 33,774 on Monday.

The new infections brought the nationwide caseload to 3,860,537.

Tuesday's new cases was the lowest in 41 days and the first time in 35 days that new cases went below 2,000.

Tuesday was the fifth straight day of decreasing new cases and the tally came after five straight days of more than 3,000 new cases.

The active cases on Tuesday was lowest in 26 days, since July 28’s 29,897 active cases and the fourth straight day of decreasing active cases.

Among the top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 14,575, followed by Calabarzon with 8,476, Central Luzon with 4,881, Western Visayas with 2,504, and Cagayan Valley with 2,221.

The Health department also recorded 3,767,569 patients recovered from the viral disease, while the fatalities rose to 61,426.

The DOH said the bed occupancy in the country slightly decreased to 28.8%, with 8,407 beds occupied, while 20,748 vacant.

Meanwhile, a total of 18,660 individuals tested, while 329 testing labs submitted as of August 23. —with GMA News Research/NB, GMA News
