DepEd to give teachers P5K cash allowance on Aug. 22, 2022

The Department of Education (DepEd) will disburse cash allowance of P5,000 to all teachers during the opening of classes on August 22, Monday.

“We would like to announce na sa pasukan, August 22, we will be giving our teachers ‘yung tinatawag nating cash allowance na P5,000,” DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa said at a joint press conference.

(We would like to announce that on the opening of classes, August 22, we will be giving our teachers a cash allowance of P5,000.)

He said it will augment and give the teachers assistance for their return to school.

“Lahat po ng teachers makakatanggap. Ibababa po ‘yan, I think doon sa school’s divisions — I’ll confirm — pero lahat po ay makakatanggap by August 22,” he said.

(Everyone will receive it. It will be passed down to school divisions —  I’ll confirm — but everyone will receive it by August 22.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) said it will expand the distribution of the PagbaBago bags containing school supplies and hygiene kits to more areas.

“‘Yan din ang plano natin. Hangga’t meron tayong resources para itulong at i-distribute, lalo na doon sa mga areas na kailangan na kailangan talaga ng school supplies at hygiene kits, i-expand natin ang operation,” OVP spokesperson Reynold Munsayac said.

(That’s our plan. As long as we have resources that we can distribute, especially in areas that really need school supplies and hygiene kits, we will expand the operation.)

When asked if the OVP aims to target the expansion at a nationwide level, he said the OVP will “look into it.”

“Titignan ho natin. Siguro ho dahil limited lang naman ‘yung resources, targeted areas lang ito. ‘Yung mas nangangailangan, mas uunahin natin,” he said.

(We’ll see. Maybe because resources are limited, it will be for target areas only. The areas that need it most will be prioritized.)

He said the OVP held a PagbaBago campaign at Limasawa Island last week.

Munsayac also said that 17,458 passengers have benefited from the OVP’s Libreng Sakay from August 3 to August 16.

The spokesperson, meanwhile, said the OVP has processed P63.4 million worth of medical and burial assistance from July 1 to August 17.

He said there were a total of 4,955 beneficiaries.

According to Munsayac, of the P63.4 million, more than P57 million were for medical assistance while more than P5 million were for burial assistance. — RSJ, GMA News
