FVR widow Ming Ramos recalls late husband's military life, thanks public
Former First Lady Amelita "Ming" Ramos, widow of the late President Fidel V. Ramos, on Tuesday recalled the adjustments their family had to make due to her husband's colorful stint in the military.
In a short message delivered after Ramos was laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City, Mrs. Ramos said despite his busy life in the military, her husband was able to help raise a family.
"Alam niyo, mahirap ang buhay sa military pero kinaya namin. Tumulong si President Ramos, kayang-kaya niya. At he was able to raise five daughters, eight grandsons and five granddaughters," she said.
(You know, life in the military was not easy, but we survived. President Ramos helped and he was able to handle it. He was able to raise five daughters, eight grandsons and five granddaughters.)
Mrs. Ramos also recalled how her husband would be gone for a long period due to his military assignments.
"Mahirap mag-adjust. Dalawang taon nasa bahay siya, dalawang taon nasa probinsiya, tapos nag-volunteer pa siya dalawang taon sa Vietnam," she said.
(It's difficult to adjust. Two years he was at home, two years in the province. Then he volunteered for two years in Vietnam.)
Mrs. Ramos then thanked the public and those who were present at her husband's burial, among them President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
"Kaya maraming salamat sa tulong niyo at sabi niya, 'Kaya natin ito.' Maraming salamat. Kaya ba natin? Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat," she said.
(Thank you so much for all your help. He said we can do this. Thank you everyone!)
Ramos, the country's 12th president, was accorded a state funeral with full military honors. He died at the age of 94. —KBK, GMA News
