DepEd: Over 2.8M students enrolled on first day of enrollment

Over 2.8-million students from different parts of the country have registered during the first day of enrollment for the incoming school year, the Department of Education (DepEd) reported on Monday.

As of 7:35 PM, DepEd said the total tally stood at 2,808,779 — a jump from the 1,443,666 learners’ turnout it recorded at 3:37 PM.

No reports of major issues or untoward incidents were also monitored during the nationwide enrollment process, the education department said, as it thanked its personnel, volunteers, and stakeholders “for the smooth and orderly process of enrollment”.

“DepEd will continue to support its field offices and the schools for the entire duration of the enrollment period, in anticipation of the expected higher enrollment turnout for this school year with the gradual return to in-person classes,” the agency added.

The start of the registration process was pursuant to DepEd Order Number 35, which sets the timeline for enrollment for the School Year 2022-2023 from July 25, 2022, to August 22, 2022.

DepEd said enrollment can be administered in-person, remotely, or through drop box forms. Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners are also allowed to enroll physically or online.

School Year 2022-2023 will start on August 22, 2022, and will end on July 7, 2023.

Blended learning schedules and full-distance learning will be allowed until October 31, but starting November 2, the department said all public and private schools in the country should have transitioned to five days of in-person classes. -- BAP, GMA News
