Group forms to back Marcos call for ‘unity’
A new group backing President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.'s call for "unity" was launched on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Kilusan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP) said that they made the move to heed the President's call to reject the "politics of division" to achieve the government’s development goals.
The group convenors include representatives Rida Robes of City of San Jose del Monte, Divina Grace Yu of Zamboanga del Sur, Luisa Lloren Cuaresma of Nueva Vizcaya, Richard Gomez of Leyte, Johnny Pimentel of Surigao del Sur, Toby Tiangco of Navotas, and Rosanna “Ria” Vergara of Nueva Ecija, as well as Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez.
“Our coming together is our response to the President’s clarion call for unity. KNP is immediately formed to formalize that movement to solidify [our] platform for cohesive, inclusive and unified action for [improving] national economy and sustainable development,” said Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos, who served as keynote speaker during the event.
"Unity" was Marcos' main rallying cry during the election, while he claimed that his winning the Presidency was the Filipinos' rejection of the "politics of division."
The KNP convenors said their group is a socio-civic movement that aims to reach out to all sectors of society up to the grassroots level and envisions a government that is both transformational and transformed.
Present during the launch were former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Mandaluyong Mayor Carmelita Abalos, five governors, several lawmakers, city and town mayors and leaders of various civic organizations. — BM, GMA News
