Bato dela Rosa to push for death penalty against drug traffickers


Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa is again pushing in the 19th Congress for the imposition of the death penalty on convicted large-scale drug traffickers.

Aside from Dela Rosa, Senator Bong Go has also indicated his plan to file a measure for the death penalty, proposing that it be imposed on drug and plunder convicts.

Also among Dela Rosa’s bills are the following:

  • ROTC Act of 2022
  • ELCAC Act
  • the amendment to the party-list system Act
  • drug abuse prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, anti-drug abuse council law
  • Philippine National Police revitalization and Capability Enhancement Act
  • Repeal of Continuing Professional Development Act of 2016
  • Filipino Farmer Financial Assistance Program Act, and
  • Special Defense Economic Zone Act of 2022.
  • Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card Registration Act
  • Toda Act
  • rank classification of Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology
  • Distance Incentive Allowance for Public School Teachers Act
  • Private Health Workers Incentives and Benefits Act
  • Barangay Health Workers Act
  • Security of Tenure for Casual and Contractual Government Employees
  • Law Enforcement Body-worn Camera Act, CCTV Act of 2022 and
  • Disaster Resilience Act of 2022.

Senator Loren Legarda is slated to be the first to file a legislative measure in the 19th Congress in accordance with the principle of seniority or length of service in the Senate, according to the Office of the Senate Secretary.

Senate Secretary Atty. Myra Marie Villarica, citing Section 61 of the rules of the Senate, said all bills and resolutions shall be filed with the Office of the Secretary whether the Senate is in session or not.

The reception of the proposed legislative measures would be through manual or physical filing at the Legislative Bills and Index Service as the 19th Congress commenced at noon of June 30.

Villarica said each senator may file 10 proposed legislative measures, while the sequence of filing shall be in accordance with the principle of seniority in the Senate. —NB, GMA News
